Srinagar, Sep 08 (KNO): The Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC) made 1,152 selections against 1,263 posts referred to it during 2025-26, leaving 111 posts without a corresponding selection during the year, according to its annual report.
The figures represent a selection rate of about 91 per cent against the posts referred to the Commission.
The 67th annual report of the JKPSC does not, however, state in the summary figures that the 111 posts were necessarily vacant or permanently unfilled. Posts may remain without selections for several reasons, including recruitment-stage issues, eligibility conditions, non-availability of suitable candidates or processes extending beyond the reporting period.
The Commission received 94,546 applications against the 1,263 posts referred to it during the year, according to the report accessed by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).
The large difference between the number of applications and available posts underlines the highly competitive nature of recruitment conducted through the Commission.
The JKPSC conducted 52 written tests and preliminary examinations and two mains examinations during 2025-26.
Its selections included candidates for the Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Service, Jammu and Kashmir Police Service and Jammu and Kashmir Accounts Service, besides 39 Junior Judges and various faculty and gazetted posts.
The Commission also conducted 29 Departmental Promotion Committee meetings and cleared 508 officers for promotion.
Three departmental examinations were conducted during the year, with 813 candidates appearing, according to the report.
The Commission has highlighted a series of recruitment reforms in the report, including 100 per cent written-examination-based recruitment, on-screen evaluation and SMS-based communication with candidates.
The figures nevertheless raise a question over the status of the 111 posts against which selections were not made during the reporting year and whether the remaining recruitment processes have since been completed—(KNO)
